I'm not particularly good at talking about myself, so you'll have to bear with me.
I was born in Essex, United Kingdom, in 1972. The middle of three girls bought up in the household, I was, from the beginning, always a bit of the odd one out. I would much rather spend time alone in my bedroom with a good book or a pen and paper than run around with my (very few) friends or just 'hang out'. Always more of an introvert, I would much rather either be alone or be with people much older than myself, especially my paternal grandparents, who I went to stay with most summers.
Staying with my grandparents was always a bit of a treat. They didn't believe in television, and the one they had would go on for an hour a day, no more, and then it was only to watch the news. So making my own entertainment was of paramount importance - it was either amuse myself or die of boredom. I think that's when I started making up my own little worlds and writing about them.
School was tough, in that I was bullied for being different. No, I don't have two noses, or an extra appendage, but I was (and still am) overweight. This had the effect of driving me more into myself, and I came to rely on my writing as an escape into a world where I was accepted. I believe that it was at about this time that I first 'met' one of the main characters that I write about. I know he's been taking up space in my head for many, many years anyway.
I won't go into too much detail about the intervening years between now and then - most of it is boring, some of it is horrific. Suffice to say that I was married and divorced twice, moved around the country a lot and began writing 'The Quest', the first in a proposed trilogy of books I call 'The Seeker Series'. That first book is out now for your Kindle, if you fancy a read. If you click on the hyper-link, it'll take you right to it, so CLICK THIS.
So, now I'm living not far from where I was born, and things are looking up. I've got a wonderful partner, Mark, who allows me to spend as much time as I like writing, and three gorgeous children who were born later in my life than I would have wanted, maybe, but are all the sweeter for it. I also have two cats - Ozzie and Shadow. I'm working on my second novel and already planning the third. I'm also considering 'side' books - stories that, while involved with the main tale of 'The Seeker Series' focus on other characters and their separate adventures.
Well, that's me, pretty much. Are you still with me? Then take my hand - onward ho!
